LAMP, THE (DVD) Daley, Tom Three hoodlums break into the house of an old woman to rob her of cash, but are disappointed to only find an old lamp with a jeweled stopper in it. The lamp gets rubbed when trying to remove the stopper which unleashes an evil ancient genie that kills the trespassing criminals. The police send the lamp to a museum where an archaeologist theorizes that it dates from 3500 b.c. and declares it significant historical importance. Soon a girl is possessed and invites some friends to spend the night at the museum. The evil genie is once again released to begin a brutal killing spree and it is up to the archaeologist to translate the engravings of the lamp and stop the ancient curse. Made 10 years before the Wishmaster series began, this is an original 80's supernatural horror teen slasher that came out at the time when every killer wore a mask. WIth its abundant gory body count and crazy special effects, this is must for all slasher and supernatural fans. AKA The Outing. UNCUT from JAPAN. 1987

LAND OF DEATH (DVD) Mattei, Bruno A small expedition of explorers has penetrated deep within the labyrinth of the dense infinite Amazon forest to study the unusual tribe who still remain practicing cannibals. One of the explorers is the daughter of a general, and when she goes missing, a Special Forces command is brought in to try and find her and the other explorers. To help them with their mission, the soldiers are accompanied by an expert guide of the territory as well as a cannibal who he captured from the tribe they seek. Tragedy starts to overcome their mission as they find the putrified bodies of the explorers, some of which have been stripped of their flesh. They do find the general's daughter, who is living as a goddess within the tribe, and is constantly being administered hallucinogens to actively partake in their rituals. Can they pry the young goddess away from her new home or will they all end up being dinner at the grand banquet? Bruno Mattei (Hell of the Living Dead) returns to the glory days of jungle-cannibal-sleeze-action, to direct this worthy modern entry to the neglected genre. Also known as Cannibal Ferox 3: Land of Death. 2003

LAST HOUSE ON THE BEACH, THE (DVD) Prosperi, Franco A trio of bank robbers drive to a remote beach house where they plan to hide from the authorities after a successful heist. Things don't go exactly as planned though since the house is currently being occupied by an attractive nun and five teenage girls who are practicing a play under her supervision. he schoolgirls become the objects of violent torture games, vicious rapes and eventually murder by the evil men. The horrified nun renounces her teachings with the remaining girls, seek bloody vengeance. Obviously inspired by Wes Craven's Last House on the Left, The Last House on the Beach's director Franco Prosperi also succeeds in making another mean-spirited, sickening rape/revenge flick that shouldn't be viewed if you are already feeling a bit depressed. Uncut and Letterboxed. 1978

LAST SHARK, THE (DVD) Castellari, Enzo G. Locals of a coastal town decide to make a beach just for swimmers but it doesn't take long for a cranky 35 foot great white shark to stake out his territory and seek revenge on the humans. When the Mayor does nothing to stop the shark attacks its up to the late great Vic Morrow (Twilight Zone) and James Franciscus (Cat O' Nine Tails) to go stop the terror of the water. Released in the U.S. under the title "Great White" in 1982, this movie was quickly yanked out of theatres when Steven Spielberg and Universal Studios had it barred from distribution due to the blaring similarities to JAWS and JAWS 2. Uncut from Japan, Letterboxed. 1980

LEY LINES (DVD) Miike, Takashi Ley Lines is the last part of Miike Takashi's Triad Society trilogy, but it (and the other parts) can be seen out of order as they contain no recurring characters or storylines. Three Japanese teenagers, born from Chinese parents, decide to leave their hometown where they feel they don't fit for Tokyo. There, they meet a drug maker, his African mate, a Chinese born prostitute and a yakuza boss. The film shows the difficulties that these people have for integration in Japanese society, and their search for an identity. Being one of Miike’s best films, it is a technical masterpiece that is full of typical outlandish characters, plenty of action scenes and genuinely emotional performances. Letterboxed. Japanese with English subtitles. 1999

LEY LINES (Japanese Chirashi) This is an original Japanese mini poster for Takashi Miike's Ley Lines. Known as chirashi, these small posters are printed on high quality paper and distributed only in Japanese movie theatres for commemoration and advertisement before the movies release. The front is full colour and the back has images from and text about the film. Mint condition. 7" x 10" $15 US 1999

LIE CHAIR, THE (DVD) Cronenberg, David A couples car breaks down on dark rainy night in the countryside and the two seek shelter in a nearby house. After knocking on the door they are welcomed as guests by the elderly owner who says she had been expecting them for dinner. The maid of the house asks them to play up to the old woman, but the couple soon realize that she's just as crazy. As weird events and sounds continue to build, the couple go from wanting to leave into turning into the people they were asked to pretend to be. This is an episode of the series Peep Show which was a CBC production created to attract and showcase new writing and directing talent for the network. Directed, but not written by Cronenberg, it is an effectively eerie piece that has the feel of a one-act play. Also includes THE ITALIAN MACHINE on the same DVD. 1975

LIGHT BLAST (DVD) Castellari, Enzo G. An ambitious police officer (Erik Estrada of CHiPs fame), is called in to solve the mystery behind the bizarre chain of disasters which have shaken San Francisco. In an attempt for complete and absolute power, a mad scientist threatens to blow up the entire city with his devastating laser cannon unless his ransom demands are me. With the explosive death ray posing the ultimate threat to the unsuspecting city, it's up to the lone cop to discover and destroy the sinister creator of the LIGHT BLAST machine. Enzo G.Castellari (Inglorious Bastards) ensures a great ride of crazy cop action with exciting high speed car chases, shoot outs, a fight with a mad female mortician, and gory melting body special effects reminiscent of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Uncut. 1985
